Nothing that is attempted for God will now go unchallenged, and scarcely a tactic be unexplored by the opposition. Now when the adversaries : Judea was not completely empty of inhabitants in the two generations of captivity. There was a remnant descended from the lowest and poorest of the land that was left behind in the exile, combined with the few who had drifted into the largely desolate area. These people were not happy that Judah and Benjamin had come back to Judea and thus they were their adversaries.
Commentary for Ezra 4
So it ceased, vnto the second yeere of the reigne of Darius king of Persia. The adversaries of the temple. The adversaries were the Samaritans, who had been planted in the land of Israel, 2Ki It was plain that they did not mean to unite in the worship of the Lord, according to his word. Let those who discourage a good work, and weaken them that are employed in it, see whose pattern they follow. Nothing can be more false, for true godliness teaches us to honour and obey our sovereign. But where the command of God requires one thing and the law of the land another, we must obey God rather than man, and patiently submit to the consequences. All who love the gospel should avoid all appearance of evil, lest they should encourage the adversaries of the church. The world is ever ready to believe any accusation against the people of God, and refuses to listen to them.
This chapter is divided into 24 verses. The original language of is Hebrew language , whereas of Ezra —24 is Aramaic. The enemies of the exiles try to destroy that community by assimilation, pointing out important similarities among their peoples verse 2 , wanting the exiles to be entirely like them, but the enemies don't have allegiance to Yahweh and assimilation for the exiles would have meant destruction of the covenant with God. The rejection of Zerubbabel was based on "spiritual insight". The story of Zerubbabel was interrupted by the list of some accounts of hostilities which happened in a long period of time to illustrate the continuous opposition by non-Jews of the area to the attempts of the Jews to establish a community under the law of God. With the repetition of the essence in verse 5 , the story of Zerubbabel and Jeshua resumes, continued to the next chapter.
It sucks but ultimately what Mormonism does to people is it makes them value adherence to church more than their relationships with people. Honestly, you are probably the only person who she has ever known to outwardly label themselves an atheist. Just know that she has been indoctrinated to believe that she wont reach the highest level of heaven if she isn't married in a Mormon temple to another Mormon. You see, I am the guy, and she is the established doctor dermatologist. What do you do while they are away.
